NATURE AND WELL-BEING |
Stia offers an excellent opportunity for those
wishing to have a relaxing holiday in the heart of Tuscany, thanks to the
benefits of a spa water which cleanses the organism and helps you get back into
tiptop shape.
The ‘Canto alla Rana’ park
Close to the historical centre, the municipal park called ‘Canto alla Rana’ (The
song of the frogs) stretches out along the banks of the river Arno. It is a
nature area with two tennis courts and a football pitch. It offers a fine
opportunity for those who simply want to go on walks or for those who are fond
of trekking in the shady and un-contaminated surroundings. Because there is no
built-up area near this part of the river Arno, it is still possible to dive
into the fresh clear water. Leisure areas were created along its banks providing
space to relax in a quiet and calm atmosphere, far away from noise and daily
stress. ( A natural swimming pool has been created, bathing huts are available
and there is a grassy area near the river, which offers ample space for
sunbathing. There is also a sand pitch for beach volley. A camping site was set
up recently).
The Spa center and Calcedonian water
Casentino has always been renowned for the quality of its water. Dante Alighieri
-perhaps the first one - recalled “...the waters that from the green hills of
Casentino descend to join the Arno, creating cold, soft streams...”
The Arno rises in this area but also many other limpid torrents begin their
lives here. For example the Staggia, from which after various alterations and
contractions, Stia got its name. Amongst the numerous springs which flow in the
local area, the first to be mentioned is the ancient ‘Fonte di Calcedonia’ (Spring
water of Calcedonia), famous for its therapeutic qualities. This spring gushes
down the slopes of Mount Falterona, from a height of about 1200 metres, and
passes through uncontaminated land in the heart of the National Park of the
Casentino Forests.
The water that flows into the Thermal Park (inside the municipal park of the
Palagio Fiorentino) is low in mineral content and belongs to the
alkaline-bicarbonate category and is recommended for its diuretic quality for
disorders such as kidney stones because of its anti-infiammatory and antispastic
effects.
Moreover it expells excess sodium and metabolizers and it helps in some
disorders of the cardiovascular system (for instance hypertension).
Besides the benefits for one’s health, drinking this water also helps keep
cellulite at bay.
Calcedonian water is bottled and marketed by Maison de l’Eau of the Pierre
Cardin Group as ‘Eau de Santé’ with the famous ‘Maxim’s’ label. |
